HAVE A SORE TOOTH?

Root Canals in Edmonton

Do you have a sore tooth? Swollen or infected gums? If left for too long, infections around your teeth and gums can lead to more serious complications that require root canal therapy. Don’t wait to get treatment, if you experience pain, swelling, or redness around your teeth and gums, visit us at Groove Dental for a comprehensive examination and assessment.

Root canal therapy is a common endodontic treatment for infection in the root canals of a tooth. Treatment becomes necessary when infection begins to cause damage to a tooth, preferably before surrounding tissues are also affected. Waiting to treat a persistent toothache or inflamed gums can lead to more damage and more expensive treatment. See the general dentist at Groove Dental in Edmonton if you are experiencing tooth or gum pain so we can assess and diagnose the issue and provide treatment as soon as possible.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Treatment begins with a thorough examination of the affected area. Your dentist may use x-rays to determine the extent of damage to the internal root structures of the tooth and surrounding tissues. If a root canal procedure is advised, the dentist will use local anesthesia to numb the affected area and isolate the tooth with specialized instruments.  We will open the tooth up to gain access to the extensive collection of roots and carefully clean all infected material from each canal before filling the root canal system with a sterile material designed to prevent further infection. Once the dentist is satisfied that all root canals have been cleaned and filled, this may take more than one visit, the tooth will be sealed. If the affected tooth is determined to be unstable as a result of infection damage to supportive tissues surrounding it, a crown may be placed over the tooth to restore its viability as a stable chewing surface in your mouth.

POST ROOT CANAL TREATMENT CARE

Your dentist will inform you of the ideal procedure for post root canal treatment care in your situation to optimize the healing process. We can recommend or prescribe medication to treat temporary discomfort following the procedure, though in most cases you’ll find it isn’t necessary.
