COMPLETE YOUR SMILE WITH DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental Implants in Edmonton
Dental implants are a common way to replace missing teeth with permanent artificial teeth and provide an alternative solution to removable dentures as a means of replacing teeth. Implants are often used to provide support and stability for dental appliances, such as bridges and partial dentures.
Artificial roots (usually titanium) and teeth are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone. The teeth attached to these implants are very natural looking and can be matched to the shape and color of existing natural teeth. Dental implants are very strong, stable, and durable and will last many years.
Dental implants have proven useful for a number of applications, including:
- Replacing one or more missing teeth without impacting adjacent teeth
- Preventing tooth shifting when one or more teeth are missing
- Resolving joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting out of place
- Completing gaps in a patient’s smile
- Restoring optimal chewing, digestion and speech
- Restoring or enhancing facial structure
- Supporting a dental bridge, partial denture, or other dental appliance
A NEW SMILE IN A MATTER OF WEEKS
From start to finish, the dental implant procedure requires a number of visits over several weeks. To begin, x-rays and digital impressions are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. In some cases, a separate bone graft procedure is necessary to augment the jaw bone before an implant can occur. Local anesthesia provides comfort while the implant is surgically placed into the bone. Once complete, the implant is left to heal and integrate itself into the bone, this may take up to six weeks.
After enough healing has occurred, artificial teeth are custom built and fitted to the post portion of the implant. This step may also require more than one visit to achieve a perfect fit, ensuring we can provide excellent stability and comfort to the patient. Dental implants require the same level of care and maintenance as natural teeth. Regular flossing, brushing and dental check ups and cleanings will ensure your dental implant lasts a long, long time.
